• Ayudarles a enfrentarse a las situaciones que les provocan timidez. Es importante que los adolescentes no eviten esas situaciones porque si lo hacen nunca conseguirán vencer la timidez. Los padres pueden ofrecerse a acompañarlos o a hablar de esa situación y evaluar todo lo que puede pasar en ella. De esa manera, el adolescente se sentirá más preparado para enfrentarse a ella.
• No quitarle importancia. Para los adolescentes esos ataques de timidez son muy importantes y pueden llegar a ser muy frustrantes. Por eso los padres no deben reirse de ellos o considerarlos una tontería. Pero también es importante que el adolescente no lo convierta en algo imposible de superar.
• Ayudarlos a conocerse a sí mismos. Al analizar con ellos sus momentos de timidez; los padres deben aprovechar para que sus hijos descubran sus puntos fuertes. Es posible que se ruboricen cuando hablan con alguien del sexo opuesto pero seguro que tienen muchos rasgos que a alguien del sexo opuesto le gustarán. Ayudarlos a ver eso conseguirá que se sientan más seguros.
